“IndyCar” is an auto-racing official body to conduct Championship auto racing.
The American based body was founded in the year 1994 and got officially affiliated in 1996. It is currently run by “Derrick Walker” who is the President whereas its headquarters are in Indianapolis, U.S.
Also known as “Indy Racing League (IRL)”, the organization is responsible officially to conduct 4 racing leagues which are IndyCar Series, Indy Lights, Pro Mazda Championship and the U.S. F2000 National Championship. The organization is owned by a private family owned company “Hulman & Company”.
IndyCar’s awards points are based upon the finishing spot of the driver just like almost all other governing bodies of the world.
The winner of series championship receives an award of $1 Million bonus. The top three drivers are separated by ten and five points respectively. The IndyCar Series offers its international lineup of the drivers’ one of the most diverse challenges in motorsports.
The first race of Indycar was conducted on January 27, 1996 which was won by “Buzz Calkins” at the Walt Disney World Speedway in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The fastest race in IndyCar Series history was in 2003 at California Speedway with an average speed of 207.151 mph.
